Viewers would benefit from consolidation, DIRECTV chief says

DIRECTV is unlikely to merge with DISH Network because of the "very challenging" regulatory climate in the U.S., although such mergers "would be pro-consumer and pro-competition," DIRECTV Chairman and CEO Mike White said at an industry conference. DIRECTV also is looking for ways to reduce its programming costs, possibly through an over-the-top partnership, but White said it was "too soon to speculate" about the future of its NFL Sunday Ticket package, the rights to which are up at the end of next season.
