Sign shops looking to take on interns next summer might want to start planning now, starting with gaining an understanding of the benefits, industry experts say. Internships give students the chance to gain practical experience and offer shops a chance to have an influence on the next generation of professionals, said Duane Laska, owner of North Shore Sign in Illinois. He cautions that employers shouldn't see interns as cheap labor. "Our goal has been to give students an experience that will benefit the entire industry," Laska said.
