European policymakers close in on EMIR

The European Commission launched the European Market Infrastructure Regulation in September 2010 to govern the over-the-counter derivatives market. Policymakers have come to agree on most of the major points of the regulation, paving the way for the European Parliament to approve EMIR soon. However, the European Securities and Markets Authority will determine technical details of the regulation. That process is expected to start next year.
