Southern states suffer high unemployment

Unemployment trends are changing assumptions about which parts of the U.S. are robust job markets. At one time the South was considered strong but now, it has some of the highest unemployment numbers, data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show. Unemployment in the South is even higher than in Rust Belt states that struggled in a strong economy.
