Construction issues jack up cost of Calif. port's Middle Harbor to $1.3B

The cost of building the Middle Harbor Redevelopment Project in Long Beach, Calif., has risen by more than $114 million above original estimates because of higher-than-anticipated costs due to inaccurate estimates for a battery-exchange building and complications in underground and in-water construction. Estimated to cost $1.2 billion in June, the overruns now bring the total to $1.314 billion. Work on the two-phased project continues, with two projects in the first phase already completed.
