Federal spending cuts set to affect higher education

Colleges and universities across the country are expected to lose millions of dollars in federal funds when an across-the-board 5% sequestration cut in spending takes effect next week. Education Secretary Arne Duncan, speaking Wednesday before the National Historically Black Colleges and Universities Week Conference in Washington, D.C., expressed frustration with the cuts. "Is education something, in tough times, we can throw away?" he asked.
