Valve unveils Steam Machines, invites beta testing

Valve stepped closer to realizing the concept of the Steam Box with its introduction of Steam Machines, computers that run on its SteamOS operating system. It is offering 300 computers for beta testing by Steam users. Multiple manufacturers will begin turning out Steam Machines next year, according to Valve, which did not elaborate on details. "This substantial user base makes Valve and its community of PC gamers a potentially significant threat to other established games platforms," said Piers Harding-Rolls of IHS.
