Analysis: Much talk and little action on Fannie and Freddie

The Obama administration and Republican lawmakers are planning to overhaul Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the broader housing-finance sector, but inaction might be the most likely course, particularly if the election shifts power in Congress, according to The Wall Street Journal. The White House plans to have a proposal to revamp the mortgage giants by January, and Republicans' "Pledge to America" calls for the "government takeover" of Fannie and Freddie to come to an end. It could, however, be a lot of talk with little action actually intended, the newspaper notes.
