The polyurethanes unit of German chemical firm BASF is constructing a systems unit in Jianjin, China, and is planning to open it by 2012. The facility is addition to three similar units across "the geographical corners of China" that offer products and services to Chinese polyurethane processors. "The strategic location of the city is perfectly suited to serve the fast-growing North China markets. ... We expect the PU market in China to continue to grow at above-average growth rates," said Wayne Smith, head of BASF's polyurethanes business.
