Health care professionals have a duty to better educate parents of adolescents about the health risks of human papillomavirus and the benefits of vaccination, pediatric nurse practitioner Rachael Buitrago writes. "Vaccination most definitely does not serve as the 'go-ahead' for teens to engage in sexual activity; it merely protects against one STD that can be fatal later in life," she writes.
