Calif. plans "chemical makeovers" for many products

Hundreds of consumer products, including shampoos, cleaning supplies and food packaging, could need reformulating under new California rules. The rules, described as the strictest and most sweeping protocol in the country for managing hazardous chemicals, will require manufacturers to justify their use of chemicals and to explore options for using safer alternatives.
