Commentary: Structured annuities aren't fully understood by some advisers

Because they are new to the market and still fairly rare, structured variable annuities, sometimes called indexed variable annuities, aren't well understood by many financial professionals, writes Linda Koco. "Getting a handle on them is a challenge because they have elements of fixed indexed annuities and of variable annuities (or SPDAs), to the point that some people just call them hybrids," she notes.
