Alaska regulators hear arguments on wind power deal

The Regulatory Commission of Alaska heard arguments in a proposed power-purchase agreement between Chugach Electric Association and Fire Island Wind's proposed wind farm on Alaska's Fire Island. The companies are seeking an expedited decision from the commission so that the project can qualify for almost $19 million in federal stimulus funds. Opponents, including Anchorage Municipal Light and Power and the Alaska Department of Law, raised concerns that the project could push up utility costs.
