Amazon launches Kindle Fire and touch-screen e-readers

Amazon is betting on the Kindle Fire's rich cache of available content and $199 price tag to quickly position the tablet as a rival to Apple's iPad and Barnes & Noble's Nook. The color device, which goes on sale in November, will include access to Amazon's warehouse of digital books, music and movies, as well as a virtual newsstand. Amazon also announced a slate of Kindles priced at $79, $99 and $149, including two touch-screen versions. The $149 Kindle Touch 3G can receive data via AT&T or via Wi-Fi.
