FCC chairman is back on stump for spectrum sell-off

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski, in a speech at an industry event in Washington, D.C., renewed his call for incentive auctions of broadcast spectrum. The auctions would be a "win-win" for TV station owners and help foster "a strong and healthy TV business," Genachowski said. However, broadcasters are wary of the effects of repacking on stations, saying the shift could shrink their viewership zones, cause interference and possibly limit the potential of mobile DTV, multicast channels, 3D and other new offerings.
