Mixed progress with LGBT bills in Calif.

Under a new law signed on Thursday by California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, defendants would not be able to invoke a "gay panic" defense; the Gwen Araujo Justice for Victims Act is named after the late transgender teen, who was murdered in 2002. The governor this week also signed legislation to standardize the state's housing laws with regard to discrimination, making them inclusive of sexual orientation, but vetoed a bill that would have placed greater limits on anti-LGBT bullying in schools.
