RN staffing correlates with adoption of safety guidelines

Higher rates of nurse-hours per patient and higher proportions of registered nurses on staff correlate with greater adoption of the National Quality Forum's safety guidelines, according to a study in the Journal of Nursing Administration. "Our findings suggest that having more nurses than necessary to meet minimum patient needs is key to adopting these practices," study author Jayani Jayawardhana said. Researchers surveyed 140 Magnet hospitals and 1,320 non-Magnet hospitals in the U.S.
