Outcomes better if heart defect is repaired in womb

Harvard researchers reported infants may have better outcomes when surgery to repair hypoplastic left heart syndrome is done before birth. The new procedure to treat the rare birth defect was technically successful in 51 of 68 procedures, study data showed, and 33% of infants were born with a fully functioning heart.
