Firing employees can be emotionally difficult for bosses, but they should keep quiet about it, Jeff Haden writes. "Any time you talk about how difficult the situation is for you the employee thinks, 'Oh yeah? ... How hard do you think this is on me?,' " he writes. He also recommends that employers be straightforward and let fired workers know their decisions are final.
