Federal government shutdown could affect cash flow to schools

The U.S. Department of Education has placed 90% of its workforce on unpaid leave because of the federal government shutdown -- leaving colleges and public schools braced for a potential disruption in services. A short-term shutdown likely will not be felt by schools, but a long-term shutdown -- beyond one week -- could affect cash flow to school districts, colleges and universities, and vocational rehabilitation agencies, according to the department.
