Stolen laptop leads to data breach at Calif. hospital

San Jose, Calif.-based Santa Clara Valley Health & Hospital System sent a data breach notice to patients after an unencrypted laptop storing patient personal and health data was discovered to have been stolen from its audiology department on Sept. 16. Compromised data included patients' names, birth dates and medical record numbers.
