The company responsible for an $11.8 million bridge project in North Carolina has filed for bankruptcy protection, and the contractor's bonding company has been involved to ensure that the work is completed. The construction contractor faces a penalty if it fails to finish the job by July, but the work "was way ahead of schedule," according to an engineer with the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
