Anti-LGBT group criticizes same-sex engagement on "Modern Family"

An anti-LGBT organization is warning that programs like "Modern Family," which depicted television's first same-sex marriage proposal during its fifth season premiere, are deceiving people into seeing same-sex couples as normal. Evan Mantel of the Media Research Center called the show "dangerous" because of its capacity to elicit empathy for the couple. He encouraged viewers to "know that what you are seeing is fiction and not a realistic portrayal of reality." "Modern Family" producer Jeffrey Richman, who is openly gay, said the storyline was not intended to make a political point.
