Christie appeals marriage equality ruling, LGBT groups respond

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's administration is seeking to expedite an appeal of Judge Mary Jacobson’s ruling that the state must allow marriage equality. Acting Attorney General John Hoffmann asked the state Supreme Court in a letter Monday to bypass the appeals court process and take up the case immediately. Hoffman also asked Jacobson to grant a stay of her ruling, which would delay the Oct. 21 effective date until after the Supreme Court weighs in. LGBT advocacy organization Lambda Legal announced on Wednesday that it will fight Hoffman’s request for a stay.
