ICU capacity linked to higher readmission risks, study says

Data from 155 U.S. hospital ICUs showed higher patient loads were linked to shorter lengths of stay in the unit and a higher risk of ICU readmission within 72 hours. The study in the Annals of Internal Medicine did not find any association between ICU capacity and in-hospital mortality, likelihood of discharge from hospital to home or total hospital LOS.
