Location data contribute to sustainable, peaceful development

GIS technology can lead to projects that are sustainable because they work with the natural world instead of against it, in cases such as Western Tanzania's Greater Gombe Ecosystem and an urban development plan in east-central Florida. GIS can also improve relationships between groups of people by finding natural boundaries, as in the case of the former Yugoslavia, where GIS was used to map Serbian and Muslim territories.
