Office cleaners in D.C. area consider strike

The Service Employees International Union local that represents janitorial workers in the Washington area voted to strike unless a deal is reached with the Washington Service Contractors Association for improved wages and health care benefits. SEIU members say building owners benefit from high rents, but building owners say they have no role in the dispute. "This is a matter between the cleaning contractors and the unions to work out," said Shaun Pharr, of the Apartment and Office Building Association of Metropolitan Washington.
