Scope 3 standard offers new ways to measure emissions

The World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development have published the third installment of their Scope carbon-measurement standard. The first two versions covered direct operations such as manufacturing and indirect operations such as energy use; Scope 3 covers emissions linked to a company's "value chain" and all of its products. That should help guide companies toward curbing emissions and operating more efficiently, say executives from Kraft and DuPont.
