App helps clinicians prescribe appropriate antibacterial treatments

A health application that will help clinicians make efficient decisions when prescribing antibacterial medications was unveiled by Epocrates at the 7th Annual Health 2.0 Conference. The Epocrates Bug + Drugs app leverages patient information from athenahealth's cloud-based EHR database to offer up-to-date geolocated data on different types of bacteria and their resistance patterns. The tool also ranks antibiotic treatment options based on organism susceptibility.
