Court reverses part of ITC ruling in Microsoft-Motorola tiff

A U.S. appeals court on Thursday issued a mixed decision in Microsoft's patent claims against Motorola Mobility, agreeing to overturn one U.S. International Trade Commission ruling but declining to do so on three other Microsoft claims. The court said Microsoft could seek damages on a patent violation dealing with graphical interfaces but said the company could not push to ban Motorola's offending devices -- judges agreed with the ITC that Motorola's phones no longer encroach on that patent.
