Human milk protects NICU babies, aids in development

Studies show the benefits of feeding NICU babies human milk instead of formula include a lower risk for complications related to preterm birth, according to Paula Meier, a pediatrics professor at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. She said specially trained counselors help increase the number of women who successfully breast-feed their babies in the NICU.
