Survey: Workers, retirees differ on their views of 401(k) plans

A survey of 958 investors by Wells Fargo and Gallup found that a third of retirees say their 401(k) plans are a major source of retirement income, compared with 64% of investors who are still working. The difference in attitudes is attributed to retirees' having more access to pension plans than current workers do. "This is a tale of two populations," said Joseph Ready, executive vice president and director of Wells Fargo Institutional Retirement and Trust.
