Police investigate nurse for possible infection-control violations

Police in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., are conducting an investigation into the activities of a veteran registered nurse who worked at the Broward General Medical Center. She possibly violated infection-control policies that put 1,851 patients at risk of blood-borne diseases such as HIV and hepatitis B and C. The Agency for Health Care Administration, the regulator of hospitals in the state, also has undertaken an on-site probe and is completing a report, officials said.
