Black mold leads officials to condemn Ill. school building

An elementary school in Mounds, Ill., has been condemned months after the principal discovered toxic black mold growing there. The school was built without a vapor barrier, despite its location in a basin where moisture accumulates, because such a feature wasn't a requirement at the time, the regional school superintendent said. A new school building in the same spot could cost $12 million or more, the superintendent said.
