Study: North Carolina commuter rail would cost $1 billion

A study released this week put the cost of building a 141-mile commuter-rail system that would operate during rush hours in North Carolina at $1 billion. N.C. Railroad Co. officials say the proposed commuter rail could dovetail with a proposed light-rail system in the Triangle area. Officials also said a ridership study is necessary to determine demand.
