Researcher: Some Web sites charge for ads, then don't run them

Ben Edelman, an assistant professor at Harvard Business School, says his research shows that many companies pay for online advertising that never appears. He says the sites get away with it by using coding that looks to marketers as though the ads are appearing, but places the ads on Web pages that consumers cannot see.
