Technology in Malta is too risky a bet, says Betfair exec

U.K.'s Betfair International has located 200 staff members in Malta, but is reluctant to move its entire sports-betting operation to the island nation because of technology issues. Betfair handles 6.4 million transactions a day, more than the combined total of Europe's stock exchanges. "The technology infrastructure in Malta is not as good as in mainland Europe," said Niall Wass, managing director of Betfair. "Our network has gone down once a week for the last 10 weeks."
