Belgian officials approve 10-year extension of nuclear power plants

Belgian cabinet members have reached an agreement with Electrabel and other nuclear producers that would extend the lives of three of the country's oldest nuclear energy facilities by 10 years to prevent power shortages and increase revenues. Under the deal, Belgium will receive, from 2010 to 2014, between $316.4 million to $360.5 million in taxes annually from the nuclear producers.
