Clariant announces new round of layoffs

Clariant, a specialty chemicals producer based in Switzerland, will cut 800 jobs worldwide, including 450 positions in Europe, in addition to the 1,850 layoffs it announced earlier this year. The company, which makes pigments for cars, textiles and other products, is trimming its workforce because of continued weak demand and low expectations for global sales in 2010.
