Oregon official recognized for work in organ donation field

Dr. Karen Gunson, Oregon's state medical examiner, recently received recognition for her office's organ donation policies. Officials from the Health Resources Services Administration, which bestowed the Regional Champion Award on Gunson, said she and other recipients were recognized for "making a difference and creating a positive impact on the field of organ, tissue, and cornea donation and transplantation." Gunson's office last year helped facilitate eye and tissue donations from 1,100 donors for the Lions Eye Bank of Portland.
