Leapfrog: Incorrect CPOE usage can lead to medical errors

Leapfrog CEO Leah Binder warns against the incorrect deployment of CPOE systems because of the possibility of serious medical errors that comes with only partially implementing the system. Leapfrog has launched a CPOE evaluation tool that evaluates systems following its national hospital survey. "While we saw considerable variability in how hospitals scored in 2008, the process of participating gave them a clear idea of what they now need to focus on in the absence of industry standards in decision support," said a Leapfrog adviser.
