EPA's tougher standards could hit oil, chemical industries in Texas

Oil and chemical trade groups in Texas are concerned that the Environmental Protection Agency's efforts to bring the state's air-pollution permitting program in line with the Clean Air Act could affect the local economy and hurt consumers. Plants and factories will have to increase the prices of gas, tires and other products to recover the millions of dollars they would spend to upgrade pollution-control systems to comply with stricter regulations, the groups said.
