Diversity, team input are crucial for new CEOs' success

CEOs who are new to their job should immediately demonstrate that diversity will be a priority, writes Roger Martin, dean of the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. "It is much harder to find the requisite personnel for a monoculture and the reward if you do find them is that they are less effective," Martin writes. CEOs also should reach out to their teams to foster support when making decisions, even if it prolongs the process, he writes.
