Government shutdown is hurting research, higher-ed leaders tell Congress

The Task Force on American Innovation, made up of higher-education and business officials, is warning that the ongoing federal government shutdown is hurting academic research. The shutdown has either halted or slowed ongoing research and science education, the group told Congress and the White House in a letter Friday. "We believe that America must maintain a commitment to its competitiveness and future innovation capabilities. This commitment is vital to short- and long-term economic growth, especially in the competitive global economy," the group wrote.
