Research looks into role of genes in mental disorders

Recent studies show that genes play a role in increasing the risk of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and other mental illnesses. Research into psychiatric genetics needs an additional $200 million or more in funding to quickly determine the fundamental "genetic architecture" of severe mental disorder, said Edward Scolnick, director of the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research.
