Texas doctor arrested on charges of $1.4M Medicare, Medicaid fraud scheme

Robstown, Texas, doctor Roque Joel Ramirez was arrested Friday on allegations of running a $1.4 million Medicare and Medicaid fraud scheme. According to the 14-count indictment, Ramirez submitted around 4,970 fraudulent billings to Medicare and Medicaid, in which he claimed to have provided medical services to patients who were dead or during times when he was out of town. The suspected fraud scheme ran from May 2008 until December 2011.
