Survey: Many people don't think their extra weight is a health problem

A survey of 450 patients in a Florida hospital emergency department found only 47% of obese or overweight men said they their weight was a health problem, while 62% of obese and overweight women said it was an issue. The University of Florida survey found only 36% of overweight or obese men and 50% of the women said their physicians had discussed weight issues with them. Study author Dr. Matthew Ryan said patients should get referrals to dietitians and weight-loss specialists when they leave the ED.
