GE upgrades to Alberta gas plant will boost reliability, efficiency

General Electric is upgrading an oil sands extraction plant in Alberta with new technology that could increase its productivity by up to 4.5% while helping it "maintain a low-emissions footprint." GE will apply Advanced Gas Path technology -- which boosts operations reliability through innovative component upgrades -- to the plant's natural-gas-fired 7FA turbine, using OpFlex solutions to complete the installation. The plant, owned by TransCanada Energy, has a maintenance-services contract with GE through 2024.
