In Portland, Ore., group aims for sick-leave requirement

An advocacy group is campaigning for Portland, Ore., to require employers to provide paid sick leave. More than 40% of regional private-sector workers do not receive paid sick days, according to Andrea Paluso, executive director of the group. Janitorial staffers at City Hall receive one paid sick day annually through a recent contract between the city and the Service Employees International Union.
