Kan. prepares for new federal rules on snacks, vending options

Cheryl Johnson, director of the Kansas education department's nutrition programs, recently told the state school board that training and technical assistance will be needed for implementation of new, federal meal standards for snacks and food sold in school vending machines. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is accepting comments about the rules, scheduled to take effect next year, but Johnson noted that the commenting process has slowed because of the federal government shutdown.
